Adonis Rose

A 41st edition highlight, Adonis Rose and Phillip Manuel together for a Live at JazzAscona recording project

Another top band stuffed with outstanding musicians, all gravitating around the extraordinary constellation of talent that is the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. Leading the lineup is Adonis Rose, acclaimed drummer, conductor and arranger (as well as JazzAscona’s New Orleans consultant as well), who for the occasion will present us with a mix of his own compositions and classics in two concerts to be recorded as Live at JazzAscona by the American label Cold Plunge. The star of the two evenings is singer Phillip Manuel, for the first time a guest of the festival. Originally from New Orleans, Phillip Manuel has been a constant presence in the best clubs and festivals in the city on the Mississippi River and in the States for years. Phillip Manuel has shared the stage with music legends such as Terence Blanchard and Bill Summers. A leading performer of timeless jazz, blues, soul and gospel evergreens, he is a singer with an elegant style and a warm, refined voice. Record-wise, he is known for his interpretations of the repertoire of Nat “King” Cole, James Taylor (Fire and Rain), and great classics by Duke Ellington and George Gershwin (most notably on Love Happened to Me, a hit album released in 2000).
