Discovering Jazz vocalist Andromeda Turre, special guest of NOJO 7
Composed of the best musicians from the cradle city of Jazz, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra returns to delight JazzAscona audiences with a band that brings together seven of its artists that festival audiences have long known and loved. Here, then, is the NOJO 7 in a program that will review great New Orleans and Jazz classics and feature for the first time at JazzAscona acclaimed vocalist Andromeda Turre. The daughter of renowned trombonist Steve Turre and cellist Akua Dixon, she has been fortunate to learn from the greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach and Wynton Marsalis. Andromeda Turre studied at the Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music, developing an innovative approach that blends Jazz, theater and contemporary music. She has performed concerts in more than 17 countries and performed in Off-Broadway productions. As a composer, she has written music for film, TV and theater, including Lena: Lessons from a Lady, dedicated to Lena Horne. She has received prestigious awards, including three awards at the World Entertainment Awards 2025 and the Global Music Award 2024 for jazz. Her career testifies to resilience, innovation and a strong commitment to social change through music.
