Back with his quintet is Raphael Jost, Swiss Jazz Award winner in 2015
Born in 1988 and honored at JazzAscona in 2015 with the Swiss Jazz Award for his debut album, singer and pianist Raphael Jost considers himself a modern vocalist. With a powerful and warm voice, Jost moves nimbly between Jazz and pop, offering songs that capture snapshots of his life, catchy and always cleverly packaged. At the same time, Jost loves to sing swing standards and loves to bring to life his swing idols such as Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander and Ahmad Jamal through his piano playing. His love for Jazz blossomed upon discovering Jamie Cullum, whose mix of Jazz and pop opened up new musical horizons for the then 18-year-old Jost, a fan of Elton John and Michael Jackson. Since then, he has graced prestigious stages (including one at the Montreux Festival) performing in Europe, Israel and Japan. He now returns to JazzAscona with his quintet featuring Bastien Rieser on trumpet, Christoph Grab on tenor saxophone, Raphael Walser on double bass and Elmar Frey on drums, musicians united by their love of swing and enchanting audiences with energetic swing and lively interplay.
