Christoph Grab’s BLACK DOG: a poetic musical play of light and shadow
BLACK DOG is a collective of German and Swiss musicians dedicated to the blues. Black Dog is also the metaphor that the legendary Winston Churchill, highly prone to depression, used to describe his darkest moods. A captivating symbiosis of blues, boogaloo and soul jazz, Black Dog’s music is a poetic play of light and shadow: It expresses those moments of despondency that sometimes grip us, in the face of which music offers a substantial way out.
The collective includes Axel Fischbacher on guitar, Thomas Bauser – hammond, Mareike Wiening on drums, and saxophonist, composer and arranger Christoph Grab, one of our country’s most significant, versatile and creative Jazzmen, winner of the Swiss Jazz Award 2023 and a great protagonist of the past edition of JazzAscona.
