Eliza Sonnenschein & The Sunshine Avenue Band: a spectacular young soul voice from New Orleans

Singer and songwriter Eliza Sonnenschein is a soul artist from New Orleans. Her gospel roots, mixed with jazz, have become her trademark. Eliza is often referred to as a pop star, which she denies: “Books,” she says, “are not judged by their cover!” She was born in Germany, spent her childhood in Italy, ended up in New Orleans “just in time to go to school”, and lived in Houston and Washington DC as an adult. Today she lives in New Orleans, which she considers her home.

This is her first time at JazzAscona and she is considered one of the rising stars of the Big Easy’s soul scene. She will be accompanied by a young group of excellent musicians, some of whom you could already admire last year with the group Roccadile.
