Jugend Jazz Orchester, a project to bring together Switzerland’s youngest Jazz talents

JazzAscona is delighted to be able to host for the first time as part of the Groovin’ Up program the Jugend Jazz Orchester, an orchestra that features talented young Swiss musicians between the ages of 16 and 25, giving them the possibility to work for several months on a repertoire created especially for the ensemble and then perform it as part of a national tour.

In just a few years, the orchestra, which finds itself playing at Jazzcampus Basel, has revealed itself to audiences as a dynamic ensemble representative of 21st-century Jazz. Its artistic director is Benjamin Weidekamp, a Berlin-based musician who has been involved in contemporary Jazz for nearly 25 years with numerous ensembles in various formations ranging from trio to extended big band.
