Nicole Johänntgen, multitalented saxophonist bewitched by the New Orleans sound
An award-winning, versatile musician and formidable alto and soprano saxophonist, based in Zurich, Nicole Johänntgen presents her new album Henry III. Played simply and honestly, with grooves and rhythms inspired by New Orleans jazz, the album was recorded the old-fashioned way, in analog format, during a live concert at the Domicile in Pforzheim. Compared to the first Henry, Henry III has an even funkier edge. The sound is fresh and direct. The new compositions invite you to sing and dance, the album is like a roller coaster ride. If one listens carefully one also discovers Henry‘s deeper and more heartbreaking side, as in the tracks “Dig Deep” or “Guetnachtlied” in which there is so much space between the individual melodies that one falls into a twilight state, in which one comes to terms with things that lie deep within oneself. “Nicole has something very special in her playing: a big, generous heart. An exceptional energy!” said David Liebman, mentor of this great Swiss artist.
