Hochschule Luzern – Musik presents the new generation: Malika Kaita Afro Jazz Quintet
This year JazzAscona has initiated a collaboration with the Music Department of HSLU – Hochschule Luzern, the festival’s new Educational Partner. The fruit of this synergy, is the participation, as part of the Groovin’ Up initiative for young musicians under 25, of the quintet led by the promising young Bernese singer of Ghanaian origin Anna Malika Kaita. Her music is rooted in Jazz and African rhythms and enjoys exploring languages, phrasing and sounds from around the world. Music in which, although a touch of melancholy transpires at times, the “African” joy of life always pulsates.
The Lucerne School of Music offers diverse and innovative opportunities to study, research and further education in a vibrant environment of a world-renowned music city. Concert experience, stage presence and teaching are important components of training and education from the very beginning. Its department that centers around “Music Education Research” and “Music Performance Research” has a national and international profile. The Pre-College promotes talent and prepares students for a successful start in a musical career. HSLU – Musik collaborates with the Lucerne Festival Academy, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Theater, various jazz festivals, the Haus der Volksmusik as well as regional music schools.
