Danilo Moccia presents Japanese trombonist Yuu Uesugi

A JazzAscona regular, Ticino-based trombonist Danilo Moccia has established himself since the late 1980s as one of Switzerland’s top-rated Jazz musicians. Voted best trombonist several times (in 1997, 1998 and 2000) by the Swiss magazine JAZZ’N’MORE, he has founded several successful bands, recorded numerous records and played with, among others, Jiggs Whigham, Slide Hampton, Franco Ambrosetti, Gianni Basso, Roy Hargrove, Marvin Stamm, Adam Nussbaum, and Dado Moroni. A member of the bands Twobones and Slidestream, in this lineup formed especially for the festival we see him surrounded by very fine artists: Locarnese drummer Oliviero Giovannoni, New Orleans pianist Victor Atkins, whom he met last year at JazzAscona, and trombonist Yuu Uesugi, an extraordinary Japanese musician with whom he first performed on a Swiss tour in 2016 with the Twobones and then on a Japanese tour, also with the Twobones, in 2019. The result was a beautiful collaboration that bears fruit at JazzAscona.
