The Swiss Armed Forces Big Band: A Jazz orchestra of great class!

With the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band, the Swiss Army has a high-class orchestra that is comfortable not only in Jazz and Swing music, but also in genres such as Pop and Rock. Eighteen young and motivated musicians serve in the Armed Forces Big Band, a facility that offers a unique opportunity to present their extraordinary skills to a wide audience. The band enjoys great success at home and abroad and is highly recognized. Since January 2015, the orchestra’s musical direction has been in the hands of conductor Edgar Schmid, a well-rounded musician who has been playing as a trombonist in Pepe Lienhard’s Orchestra since 1992, with whom he has also participated in many of Udo Jürgens’ tours. In its two highly anticipated concerts in Ascona, the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band will feature well-established singer, Brigitte Wullimann and the versatile tenor Axel Marena.

The financial compensation to the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band will be donated to promote young musicians in JazzAscona’s Groovin’ Up youth development program.
